Introduction
December 2007, after many years of dreaming of becoming an exchange student, I finally applied for a scholarship to study abroad in Japan. Several months of filling out supplemental applications and interviews passed, and then one day I received the thrilling news that I was chosen to be a JAFS Scholar.
